SENIOR DESIGNER
Oriented towards craftmanship and high-end construction.

Mission 12 months renewable contract
Office location : Lisbon (Tv. do Rosário 16, 1250-096 Lisboa, Portugal)
Prerequisites: Fluent Portuguese and English

Context
We are at a pivotal moment in the development of the studio and a very highly committed and autonomous person is needed to join the Lisbon-based team to be part of the “Made In Situ” adventures.
We are looking for a senior designer who enjoys working in a high-energy environment on exciting projects of both concept and function. We are not targeting the typical profile of an industrial designer but a designer who can juggle workshop management, the challenges of craftsmanship, manual work while using their proven design skills to bring the collections to life.

Missions:
Design, development and hand-building of objects and furniture on various projects, including hands-on collaborative work with craftspeople. Key position where you are expected to be agile and resilient in all circumstances while keeping the quality/demand of the projects in mind. Ability to bounce back, to be a strong self-starter and team player.

Key Responsibilities: In charge of several collections by Made In Situ, from initial design to final production and delivery, with regular follow-up with the artisans.

1 – Design
Drive design intent and development phases for object and furniture collections
– Lead effective research
– Produce study models in volume (mockups, prototypes)
– Produce sketches, drawing plans, 3D renderings
2 – Lead Production
Proactively lead the production process for several projects at the same time
– Build, maintain and manage relationships with artisans
– Supervise/follow up the manufacturing pieces when needed with several players
– Deliver accurate and well-fitting plans to support the work of the craftsmen
3 – Workshop supervisor
– Supervise the management of the workshop’s stocks and tools with the help of our administrative responsible and the studio manager
– Find technical solutions and help design the future scenography of the gallery (displays to showcase the collections at openings and others events)
– Build prototypes to validate the pieces of the future collections
– Be crafty and precise with your hands to meet the occasional needs of the studio and side projects that require direct visualization

Knowledge/Skills
Academic:
 Diploma from a design school
 At least 5 years of experience in a working design studio
 Fluent Portuguese and English both written & spoken, French is a plus
 Good knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhino,+3Ds Max software or cinema 4D
– Expertise in production management, used to be in touch with artisans, producers or manufacturers
– A reliable builder, skillful and resourceful with manual work
– Solid technical background with a strong sense of details
– Good understanding and assimilation of a creative language
