Champalimaud Foundation (Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for a Digital Content & Social Media Editor to engage people around the world with the work that is being carried out at the Champalimaud Foundation (CF), in Lisbon, Portugal.

The incumbent will integrate the Champalimaud Communication, Events and Outreach team and work together with the different units of the Champalimaud Clinical Centre – CCC, dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and with the different labs from the Champalimaud Research – CR, dedicated to neuroscience and cancer research. With a strong digital expertise, this person should combine an understanding of science with the ability to plan and implement an online communication strategy. This interdisciplinary position involves developing and implementing online strategic initiatives that sustain and strengthen the recognition of the work being carried out at the CF.

Work Plan
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
– Plan and implement strategic digital campaigns, including recruitment campaigns to attract candidates and event advertisements. The development of quantitative and qualitative strategies to assess targeted audience growth and engagement will be an important aspect of the position;
– Identify, write and edit online content for both internal and external channels, while maintaining consistency with Champalimaud Foundation’s mission and culture;
– Manage social media accounts and promote shareable, authentic content, incorporating SEO expertise and strong editorial judgment;
– Track outcomes and analyse the appropriate social media/metrics, insights and best practices, to determine the impact and to formulate digital communication strategies;
– Curate and manage the website, bringing an imaginative and strategic vision to maximize our impact on various digital platforms;
– Engage public information officers from partner institutions to amplify and coordinate media and promotion efforts;
– Implement and manage the communication contacts database;
– Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Duration and place of work
This fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal for additional periods, depending on positive evaluation. Activities will take place at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, in Lisbon, Portugal.

Monthly stipend
Fellowship value will be commensurate with skills and experience.

Coordination
The Digital Content & Social Media Editor will report to the Coordinators of the Champalimaud Communication, Events and Outreach (CEO) team.

Eligibility criteria
National, Foreign or Stateless candidate(s) who hold an advanced degree in the sciences and/or three-to five-years experience in similar positions and a curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed.

In case of PhD degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12th of October, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the deadline for application submission.

Skills/Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
– Advanced degree in the sciences and/or three-to five-years experience in similar positions;
– Fluent in Portuguese and English, both writing and speaking;
– Experience in communication, with a demonstrated ability in the design and implementation of online communication strategies and proven working experience as a digital media specialist;
– Experience in managing social media campaigns;
– Experience in online content development and management of websites and newsletters;
– Experience with Drupal or related content management systems; experience using Google analytics to track viewership and as a basis to inform digital strategy is preferred;
– Strong knowledge of innovation and new developments in digital and social media technology and trends.

Preferred qualifications
– Passionate about Science and Health related topics;
– Experience working at a research institution or university;
– Basic knowledge of web design, web development (e.g. html, css and javascript);
– Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or other digital and design programmes;
– Exceptional attention to editorial detail;
– Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, a sense of humour, and a commitment to teamwork. Must be flexible, organised, and capable of performing multiple tasks;
– Ability to prioritise, manage several projects simultaneously and adapt to change;
– The successful candidate must be flexible in nature, have a sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organisation.

Selection process
– Candidates will be screened to determine eligibility based on minimum qualifications listed in call;
– Candidates meeting minimum requirements will be scored according to the required application materials: CV 70% weighting, motivation letter 20%, interview 10% (in case of a tie).

Notification of results
All candidates will receive a receipt of acknowledgment within 7-10 business days. The highest scoring candidate will be notified by email or telephone. All other candidates will be notified solely by email of the final outcome of the recruitment process.

After being notified, candidates will have 10 working days to present a claim for redress by email (careers@research.fchampalimaud.org). If no claim is received by the Champalimaud Foundation, the Evaluation Committee’s decision will become definitive.
