champalimaud research audio visual technician

The Champalimaud Foundation (Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for an Audio Visual technician to provide audio and visual support to the Champalimaud Research (CR) community.

The position is part of the CR Support Units (CRSU), the group of professional staff that supports the research, education and scientific outreach efforts of the community. This full-time position was designed for a female or male technician responsible for managing the AV equipment and software, among other digital platforms, and for providing audio and visual support for events, working under the Communication, Events and Outreach Team.

Candidates for this position should be meticulous, self-motivated, proactive, creative, flexible to occasionally work on evenings and weekends, and willing to work in a dynamic research environment. The right candidate will be fluent in English, highly proficient in all technical aspects of audiovisual equipment, experienced in managing all the AV-related aspects of onsite, online and hybrid events, contributing to the positive and enthusiastic nature of the team.

Work Plan
The primary responsibilities are the following
A. AV Equipment Management

– Develop and manage the inventory of every equipment & software owned by the CR;
– Purchase, test, repair, upgrade, document and deploy all audio, video, lighting and broadcast equipment stored and implemented in seminar and meeting rooms of CR;
– Procure new audiovisual, light equipment & software necessary to the CR activities;
– Negotiate and manage with AV suppliers (evaluate proposals, get quotations, find best solutions).

B. Videoconference Platform Management

– Manage and upgrade the video conference platform in order to maximise its usage;
– Develop and update all the necessary technical and user’s procedures;
– Negotiate with suppliers on behalf of the CR community’s best interest.

C. AV Support to Events

– Create, provide and enable solutions to successfully deliver events (e.g. conferences, seminars, workshops, social gatherings, lab meetings, retreats, etc), onsite, online or hybrid;
– Secure the AV setup and the technical assistance that is required for events, in terms of image, sound and light (AV equipment lifting and carrying, operation of optical audiovisual instruments, and light, image and sound direction, recordings);
– Conduct technical sessions with organisers, hosts and invited speakers, providing the necessary guidelines, instructions and general support before, during and after the events;
– Minor pre-production, production and post-production of image and sound.

D. AV support to the CR Community

– Provide onsite and online AV support by securing a daily Helpdesk to address requests related to AV equipment, software and digital platforms.

Skills/Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
– Experience of at least 2 years in events operation and management, in the audiovisual field;
– Demonstrated good command of written and spoken English;

Essential skills
– Knowledge of the most up to date AV technology;
– Demonstrated excellent organisation and management skills;
– Demonstrated solution-focused attitude, ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
– Demonstrated collaborative abilities and comfortable with teamwork;
– Demonstrated self-motivation and adaptability;

Desirable skills that will also be considered
– Experience organising scientific events;
– Experience in a service role, interfacing with special guests or customers
– Experience in negotiation and sales;
– Demonstrated interest in science & technology.

Evaluation and selection criteria (respecting article 37 of Decree-Law No. 63/2019, of 16 May)

– Applications meeting minimum requirements will be scored according to the required application materials.
– Applications meeting minimum requirements will be scored according to the following weighting: Curriculum vitae 75%, letter of motivation 25%. Top scoring candidates will be called for interviews.

After the interviews, the candidates’ referees will be contacted for references.

The final decision will be based on interview performance and references.

Notification of results
All candidates will receive a receipt of acknowledgment within 7-10 business days. The highest scoring candidate will be notified by email or telephone. All other candidates will be notified solely by email of the final outcome of the recruitment process.

After being notified, candidates will have 10 working days to present a claim for redress by email (careers@research.fchampalimaud.org). If no claim is received by the Champalimaud Foundation, the Evaluation Committee’s decision will become definitive.
