Job Description and Responsibilities:
You will work under the supervision of the Head of the Human-Centred Design department, composed of researchers with backgrounds in graphic, industrial and interaction design, mechanical engineering, computer science and health.

We expect a person who is motivated by creating meaningful products and who has a proven track record of translating user and design research insights into product design. You will be working in various projects ranging from healthcare to manufacturing, so we expect you to be highly focused on the users and on the wider impact that your designs have on the context in which they will be used. Ideally, you will have experience with IoT devices and digital user interaction that fits nicely into the tangible user experience.

You will have the opportunity to work in long research projects with various partners as well as in short projects for industry clients, so we expect you to be a curious design researcher, but also a person who delivers results in short-time when needed. You will be expected to work in more than one brief at a time, so it is important for us to find a person who is able to organise her time.

Important at Fraunhofer AICOS is the interdisciplinary nature of our work and the team spirit. Therefore, we expect you to be open to new ideas, be curious about learning what other disciplines have to say about the brief and be a really good colleague to work with.

For this position we are also expecting a person who can easily communicate ideas in writing, sketching and speaking. Presenting concepts for industry clients or for public funding, as well as writing research and testing reports, will be part of your activities.

Academic Qualifications:
– MSc in Industrial Design, Product Design or similar qualification/experience

Professional Experience in:
– Prototyping through 3D printing, digital fabrication and hands-on model making
– Design research
– Full-cycle product development, from ideation to production
– Client-facing activities
– Team management (ideally)
– Project management (ideally)
