backend developer

Our Backend Developers are a group of dedicated and hard working team mates whose effort represents the backbone of our projects.
The projects they take on range from greenfield software development, to setting up cloud infrastructure, to maintaining the existing software of our customers.
They are mostly engineers, and not consultants. In their work, they strive to make decisions that are sustainable and optimal for our customers.
Everything they do is based on open-source technology.

As a Backend Developer at MobiLab, you will:
– work on existing & new custom-designed backend software, powering our web-based services, and our mobile apps
– share responsibility for the quality of your team's software
– take your DevOps skills to new heights, as all of our services happily live on clouds, inside containers
– understand the business domain of your project
– make decisions that are technically & economically sound
– mentor and teach junior developers
– learn & research on your own agenda, or contribute to open-source software you care about
– expand your knowledge via company-funded conference visits
– not waste your time sitting through pointless meetings; we take great care to keep bureaucracy at a minimum
– sometimes be required to travel, or work on-site temporarily

A typical project setup, managed by a handful of developers, looks like this for us:
– code hosted on GitHub
– a CI/CD pipeline running on Travis
– containerized services implemented in Spring-Boot, and NodeJS
– a web-frontend based on JS/React
– cloud-based infrastructure running Kubernetes
– a managed SQL database such as MySQL
– centralized logging (e.g. Stackdriver Logging)
– Prometheus/Grafana for metrics

At a minimum, we would like you to:
– have 3+ years of experience in a relevant position
– be fluent in one backend ecosystem such as Java/Kotlin + Spring-Boot
– know how to achieve quality via good software design & automated testing
– be open to learn new technologies
– hold a BSc degree in computer science or in a related field
– be able to speak & write in English fluently Ideally, you have learned a few more tricks already.

Among others, we care about:
– the German language, as it often is the language of our customers
– knowing how to follow agile processes
– the latest advancements in containers, and in infrastructure automation
– all flavors of test automation
– building CI/CD pipelines
– both SQL and NoSQL databases
– good knowledge of Linux
– gathering & visualizing business & performance metrics
– other languages & tech stacks: NodeJS, Go, Kotlin, Scala
– a deep understanding of the technologies and protocols that drive the web
– at least basic knowledge of web front-end development, or mobile development
